Chartwells have been providing the catering service to your school since September 2021.
As the leading provider of catering services to schools across the UK, we believe school lunches should be freshly prepared, great-tasting and attractively presented to engage pupils to have a great experience during meal times.
Our menus are fully nutritionally, checked by our expert team led by David, our Executive Chef, and Marnie, our Nutritionist, to meet the Government’s school food standards.
Seasonal and nutritionally balanced healthy menus will change twice a year offering variety along with new dishes to stimulate inquisitive minds.
We understand our responsibility and the importance of educating young people on good nutrition and healthy lifestyles via our education programmes.
We’re proud of our support for local and British suppliers – sourcing the best possible quality ingredients and produce from well respected, stringently selected and continually audited farmers and growers.
We’ve always taken the issue of food allergies extremely seriously. If any pupil has an allergy, an intolerance or a medical condition that calls for a special diet our in-house expert team of nutritionists make sure pupils are fully and safely catered for with special menus, procedures and local training. We need to ensure we have taken care of all your children’s catering requirements.

Free School Meals
Are you entitled to Free School Meals? Your child will qualify for free school meals if they’re in full-time education and you receive one of the following benefits:
- Income support
- Income based Job Seekers Allowance
- Income related Employment and Support Allowance
- The guarantee element of Pension Credit
- Child Tax Credit (provided you’re not also entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual gross income of no more than £16,190)
- Support under part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
- Working Tax Credit run-on- paid for 4 weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit
- Universal Credit – if you apply on or after 1 April 2018 your household income must be less than £7,400 a year (after tax and not including any benefits you get)
Children who receive a qualifying benefit in their own right are also entitled to receive free school meals.
For every child eligible for free school meals the school will receive extra funding from the government. This will allow us to provide targeted support and provision to individual children who we know will benefit from additional provision.
Your child won’t qualify for free school meals if you’re receiving working tax credits and disabled working tax credits, except for the 4-week run-on paid after you’ve stopped qualifying for working tax credits.
Changes to Free School Meals from 1st April 2018
If your child is eligible to receive a free school meal at any time before March 2022, they will retain their eligibility until this date. If your child is still in education in March 2022, they will retain their eligibility until the end of their current phase of education, primary or secondary.
If you feel that you are entitled to free school meals, please complete the registration form and return it the main office as soon as possible. Alternatively, you can visit the Walsall Council website and apply online.
